Facts About Homelessness
- On any given night in Erie County, approximately 2,100 men, women, and children can be found on the streets, in emergency shelters, or in transitional or permanent supportive housing.
- Twenty-eight percent of shelter participants are children.
- Forty-five percent of individuals accessing emergency homeless services are working full or part time or in a training program.
- Shelters turn away five to six homeless families nightly.
- People who are homeless want what all of us want– a decent, safe and affordable home.
